National Merit Finalist Scholarship

National merit finalist scholarship awards are given to high achieving students who get the recognition as well. The program is run by a non-profit organization, The National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The finalists are selected and they receive an award of $2,500 to continue their studies in any accredited college or university of their choice. The award is given on the basis of the academic performance and PSAT scores of the applicants. This corporation awards more the $50 million every year as scholarship award money.   1. Appear for the PSAT tests the year you are planning to go to the college. You should take the test when you are a high school junior and you must be enrolled as a full time student. You must have plans to enter college immediately after completing your high school.
  2. You must be a U.S. citizen and if not you must have applied for permanent residence in the United States. This application must be for an intention to become a citizen of the United States as soon as possible.

  4. Your score in the PSAT test must put you among the top 50,000 students nationwide. This is the main qualification that is required from an applicant and this will give the right recognition required.
  5. Check your mails in September as you will be invited by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. You need to mention the name of two colleges or universities of your choice where you would like to continue your studies.
  6. If your name is not in the list of semi-finalists, you can contact your guidance counselor regarding this.
